Until Wednesday, September 27, 2019, the people and government of Tanzania could not boast of one flyover, a common infracstructure across many African cities and major towns.

According to a report by the British Broadcasting Service, the country’s business capital of Dar es Salaam has welcomed its first flyover, with President John Pombe Magufuli attending the opening ceremony of the Japanese built facility.

“The Eng. Patrick Mfugale Flyover was a grant aid from the people of Japan as a token of friendship and cooperation between Japan and the United Republic of Tanzania,” a plaque at the facility read.

Named after the head of the country’s Road Agency, the flyover which gulped $45 million financed by the government of Japan, was constructed within two years at an intersection famed for heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

The facility also connects vehicular movement to the central business district of the country’s capital, airport and port.
