In a rare act of violence against children in Beijing, the Chinese capital, a man who has now been arrested, attacked pupils at a primary school on Tuesday.
According to the Xicheng District government, at least twenty children were wounded in the attack. Three of them suffered heavy injuries but their conditions have been stabilized after they were rushed to the hospitals for treatment.
Although the Xicheng government did not give other details of the attack, posts circulating on social media said the children suffered knife wounds to the head.
Violent crime is rare in China but there have been a series of knife and axe attacks in recent years, many of them targeting children.
In January last year, a man in southern China stabbed 12 children with a vegetable knife as revenge for his life not going as he wanted after a dispute with a neighbour. He was executed this month.
