The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared incumbent governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party , Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the winner of the governorship election in Rivers State.

Declaring the results on Wednesday evening, the state INEC Returning Officer, Obo Effanga said Wike polled a total of 886, 264 votes to defeat his closest rival,  Awara Biokpomabo of the African Action Congress (AAC) who polled 249, 324 votes.

Effanga said the margin of lead between Wike and Biokpomabo stood at 712, 405 while the total number of registered voters in areas where the elections did not hold or were cancelled was 249, 324.

He said there was no need to conduct supplementary elections in the affected areas and therefore declared Governor Wike as duly elected having met the requirements of the law.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)  had suspended the collation of the results of the election in the state on March 10 due to electoral violence.
