The President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa has recused herself from presiding or being a member of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
The judge announced her decision to recuse herself on Wednesday despite the panel’s ruling against the application made by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar that the judge recused herself from the proceedings.
Atiku Abubakar is challenging the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari who fiew the flag of the All Progressives Congress in the February presidential election.
Counsel to Atiku Abubakar, Livy Ozuokwu had asked the Chairman of the tribunal being the President of the Court of Appeal to recuse herself on the grounds that she would most likely be biased in the case. Justice Bulkachuwa’s husband is Adamu Mohammed Bulkachuwa, the senator-elect of Bauchi North Senatorial District under the governing All Progressives Congress.
