President Donald Trump’s recent proposal for the United States to take over the Gaza Strip and transform it into the “Riviera of the Middle East” has elicited strong reactions from Palestinian groups and the international community. The plan involves resettling Palestinians elsewhere, a notion that has been met with widespread condemnation.

Sami Abu Zuhri, a senior official of Hamas, the Palestinian militant group that previously governed Gaza, labeled Trump’s remarks as “ridiculous and absurd.” He warned that “any ideas of this kind are capable of igniting the region,” emphasizing Hamas’s commitment to the current ceasefire with Israel and the importance of ongoing negotiations.

Internationally, the plan has been met with significant opposition. Saudi Arabia rejected the displacement of Palestinians and reiterated its support for the establishment of a Palestinian state. Turkey deemed the proposal “unacceptable,” while France cautioned that it could destabilize the Middle East. Other nations, including Russia, China, Germany, Spain, Ireland, and the United Kingdom, reaffirmed their support for a two-state solution, viewing Gaza as an integral part of a future Palestinian state alongside the occupied West Bank.
