The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the interception of cannabis valued at N48.5 million and other contraband items worth N220.4 million during operations in Kaduna State.
Spokesman for the Federal Operations Unit, Zone B, Saidu Nuruddeen, disclosed this on behalf of the Comptroller of the Service in a statement on Thursday. He said the seizures were made on August 21, 2025, following intelligence-led operations.
According to Nuruddeen, operatives intercepted a vehicle along the Zaria Flyover on the Kaduna-Zaria Expressway, where they discovered nine sacks containing 185 compressed blocks of Cannabis Sativa weighing 89.6kg. The haul carried an estimated duty-paid value of N48,562,500.
He confirmed that a male suspect was arrested in connection with the seizure. “The suspect and the exhibits were handed over to operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution in line with the spirit of inter-agency collaboration,” the statement said.
In addition to the drugs, contraband goods worth N220.4 million were seized in separate operations across the state. The Customs Service reiterated its commitment to curbing smuggling and illicit trade, stressing that it would continue to rely on intelligence and strengthen partnerships with other security agencies.
