President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his planned trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, following fresh security breaches in Kebbi and Kwara states, the Presidency announced on Wednesday.
Tinubu had been scheduled to depart Abuja today for the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit in South Africa before heading to Luanda for the 7th AU-EU Summit. However, the President suspended his travel plans as he awaits further security briefings on the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.
According to the statement, Tinubu directed the deployment of additional security personnel to Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area after receiving a request from the Kwara State governor. He also ordered the police to track down the bandits responsible for the church attack.
The President is awaiting reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi State on his behalf, as well as briefings from the police and the Department of State Services on the Kwara incident.
Tinubu reiterated his directive to security agencies to “do everything possible” to rescue the 24 schoolgirls abducted in Kebbi and ensure their safe return.
The statement was signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy), on November 19, 2025.
