The Oyo State High Court has granted approval for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to proceed with its elective national convention slated for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
In its ruling, the court also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to attend and monitor the exercise as required by law.
Justice A. L. Akintola, who presided over the matter, issued an interim order permitting the PDP to continue preparations for the convention without any interference or obstruction.
The ruling followed an ex-parte motion filed by Folahan Adelabi against the PDP, its Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum; the Governor of Adamawa State, Umaru Fintiri, who chairs the National Convention Organising Committee; and INEC.
Adelabi had sought an order to prevent the defendants from altering or disrupting the approved timetable, guidelines, or schedule for the convention.
In his decision on Monday, Justice Akintola held that the claimant presented a strong case requiring immediate judicial protection.
“The motion ex-parte has merit and succeeds as prayed,” the judge ruled, granting temporary reliefs to ensure the convention proceeds as scheduled.
The court adjourned the hearing of the substantive motion for an interlocutory injunction to November 10, 2025.
The interim order, dated November 3, 2025, was sealed by the Oyo State High Court and endorsed by its Principal Registrar, S. O. Hammed.
