The newly elected National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Kabiru Turaki, has vowed to end what he called impunity and the suppression of Nigerians’ will within the party and across the country.
Turaki made the declaration in his acceptance speech after securing a resounding victory at the PDP’s 2025 elective national convention in Ibadan on Saturday.
According to official results announced at the convention, Turaki polled 1,516 votes, defeating his closest rival, Garuba Lado, who received 41 votes.
In his remarks, the new chairman assured party members that their confidence in him would not be taken for granted.
“There will be no more impunity and suppression of the will of the Nigerian people,” Turaki said.
“We shall open our ears wide to listen to you to determine what you want, and what you want is what we shall give you.”
He pledged that under his leadership, the PDP would operate on the principles of fairness, equity, and justice.
Describing the party as being at a crossroads, Turaki said the newly elected National Working Committee was ready to confront the challenges ahead. He also announced plans to embark on reconciliation efforts, urging members who left the party due to internal disputes to return.
He appealed particularly to those with “genuine grievances” to rejoin the party in order to “save Nigeria’s democracy from imminent collapse.”
