Airspace over Lagos was temporarily suspended on Monday after a fire broke out at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, forcing the suspension of flight operations.
Authorities said six people were injured and are in stable condition, while 14 others were rescued after being trapped in the control tower. Emergency teams later evacuated all affected personnel.
The fire reportedly started around 3 p.m. in a server room on the first floor of Terminal 1 and spread to the departures hall, which is currently undergoing a $500 million renovation.
The Nigeria’s Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) said it activated emergency measures and worked to set up a temporary control tower to restore services.
Flight operations resumed at about 7:30 p.m., following safety assessments and containment of the fire.
