Liverpool Football Club has confirmed that head coach Arne Slot has left his role with immediate effect, with the club beginning the process of appointing a successor.
Slot, who joined Liverpool in June 2024, guided the club to significant success during his tenure, most notably delivering the club’s 20th league title in his debut season. He also won the LMA Manager of the Year award and led the Reds to the Carabao Cup final as well as the UEFA Champions League round of 16.
In the 2025–26 campaign, Liverpool secured qualification for the next season’s Champions League and reached the quarter-finals of the competition.
In a joint statement, Liverpool’s ownership praised Slot’s contribution, describing his tenure as “significant, meaningful and successful,” and highlighting his leadership, professionalism and work ethic.
The statement noted that while the decision to part ways was difficult, it was taken in the interest of ensuring continued progress for the club.
Liverpool also paid tribute to Slot’s achievements, particularly his Premier League triumph in his first season and his conduct during a challenging period for the club, including the loss of Diogo Jota.
“Arne leaves with our gratitude, with a Premier League title to his name, and with the knowledge that he and his family will always be welcomed back at Anfield,” the club said.
The club added that although Slot’s contributions are highly valued, a change in direction was deemed necessary for the team’s future trajectory.
Liverpool confirmed that the search for a new head coach is already underway.
