The Presidency has dismissed as false and misleading a viral report claiming that President Bola Tinubu plans to amend the constitution to rename Nigeria the “United States of Nigeria” and abolish Sharia Law in the North.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Presidency described the report as fake news designed to create tension, political disaffection, and instability ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the statement, President Tinubu has no intention of introducing any bill allegedly code-named “Project True Federation” to the National Assembly.

The Presidency accused unnamed political actors of spreading divisive misinformation to heat up the polity and mislead Nigerians.

It further noted that constitutional amendments are subject to strict legislative procedures requiring approval by two-thirds of both chambers of the National Assembly and concurrence from at least 24 state Houses of Assembly.

The statement stressed that President Tinubu remains focused on implementing economic reforms and delivering development initiatives under his administration.

The Presidency also urged Nigerians to be cautious of fake and inflammatory reports as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections intensify.
