President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) following the dismantling of a major Nigerian-Mexican drug syndicate and a multi-million-dollar illegal drug production network in the country.
NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd.), announced the breakthrough on Wednesday after weeks of intelligence gathering and coordinated operations carried out with international partners.
According to the agency, the operation led to the arrest of foreign nationals, local drug kingpins, and other collaborators, alongside the seizure of chemicals and illicit drugs valued at over $360 million.
Reacting to the development, President Tinubu praised the professionalism, courage, and dedication displayed by NDLEA operatives during the operation.
“This successful operation demonstrates exceptional professionalism, courage, and unwavering commitment to safeguarding society from the devastating effects of narcotics,” the President said.
Tinubu warned that West Africa was increasingly becoming a transit hub for cocaine, synthetic drugs, and unregulated pharmaceuticals destined for Europe and North America.
He also stressed that drug trafficking poses serious security and social threats, particularly to young people vulnerable to substance abuse.
The President urged Nigerians to support the fight against illicit drugs by remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious activities to security agencies.
He added that the operation sends a strong message that organised crime and criminality will not be tolerated anywhere in the country.
