The final batch of Nigerians evacuated from South Africa amid rising xenophobic tensions has arrived in Lagos aboard an Air Peace flight.

The aircraft landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at about 11:28 a.m., concluding the Federal Government’s voluntary evacuation programme for Nigerians who opted to return home.

The exercise, approved by President Bola Tinubu, followed six earlier evacuation flights that brought home hundreds of Nigerians after concerns over xenophobia-related incidents in South Africa.

The evacuation was coordinated by the Federal Government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Air Peace and other relevant agencies.
