Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has secured a second term in office after winning the August 15 governorship election, defeating his closest challenger, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, the winner after he polled 511,067 votes across the state.
Oyebamiji came second with 444,815 votes, while African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Najeem Salaam finished third with 17,180 votes. Adeleke won 19 of Osun’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured 11.
The result gave Adeleke a margin of 66,252 votes over the APC candidate, securing his return to the Osun Government House for another four-year term.
Adeleke’s victory comes four years after he first won the governorship in 2022, when he defeated then-incumbent Gboyega Oyetola of the APC.
The 2026 election featured 15 candidates and was closely watched as a major test ahead of the 2027 general elections. INEC’s declaration followed the collation of results from across the state.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Adeleke on his victory, describing the outcome as a reflection of the will of Osun voters and urging the governor-elect to unite the people of the state and pursue growth, stability and socio-economic development.
