Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has reflected on his relationships with colleagues, friends and family, saying recent events have led him to reassess some of those relationships.

In a statement titled “My Relationships and the Aftermath,” El-Rufai said he had consistently stood by people and causes he believed in, guided by his Islamic faith, Arewa upbringing, personal values and conscience.

He said he supported people during difficult circumstances without expecting praise, gratitude or reciprocity, adding that those were choices he made freely and remained responsible for.

El-Rufai acknowledged that some people he previously supported may now choose to speak out, remain silent or distance themselves from him, saying he did not wish to judge them for making different choices.

He said adversity had provided an opportunity to better understand relationships and reconsider what people who look up to him expect from those relationships.

According to him, the experience was not about reproach or condemnation but about seeing people and life more clearly.

El-Rufai said he had no regrets about standing by people when he believed it was right, adding that he bore no resentment towards those who chose not to reciprocate.

He also said he would not seek revenge or retaliation for any injustice, ingratitude or injury suffered, leaving ultimate accountability to Almighty Allah.

“Each of us must live with the choices we make, and posterity will render whatever verdict it sees fit,” he said, adding that his priority was to remain at peace with his conscience and with Allah.
