President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending four weeks in Europe on what the Presidency described as a working vacation.

Tinubu arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at about 6:22pm on Tuesday, September 29, aboard Nigerian Air Force One, after departing Paris, France.

The President departed Abuja on August 30 and spent about a week in London before proceeding to Paris, where he held a number of official and business engagements.

In Paris, Tinubu met French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bolloré, while he also held discussions with First HoldCo Chairman, Femi Otedola. He also witnessed the signing of agreements between the Ogun State Government and DP World for the proposed Gateway Deep Sea Port and Blue Marine Economic Zone, with an estimated $7 billion investment.

The President’s return came after the Presidency extended his initial three-week vacation by several days. His prolonged absence generated political and constitutional debate, particularly over the duration of his stay abroad and questions surrounding the constitutional procedure for presidential absence.

Speaking shortly after his arrival, Tinubu dismissed concerns about his health, saying he was “healthy, sound, and ready to go.”

Tinubu chose to return through Lagos ahead of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary. The Presidency said he would attend the premiere of a film honouring the late MKO Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre on October 1.

He is also expected to hold strategic meetings in Lagos before returning to Abuja after the Independence celebrations and other official engagements.
