Nigeria’s female national football team, the Super Falcons on Tuesday night qualified for the finals of the ongoing African Womens’ Cup of Nations (AWCON) championship being hosted by Ghana.

The Falcons who defeated their perennial rivals, the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon 4-2 on penalties also booked their automatic ticket to the 2019 Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) World Cup to be hosted by France.

After an uninspiring 120 minutes of play which produced no goals, the ‎Thomas Dennerby-tutored side needed the goalkeeping heroics of Rivers Angels’ Tochukwu Oluehi to overcome the Cameroonian ladies.

On Saturday, the Falcons will  face the Banyana Banyana of South Africa who defeated Mali 2-0 in Tuesday’s other semi-final clash while Cameroon slugs it out with Mali in the third place play-offs to determine who gets Africa’s third spot at the World Cup.
