Mohamed Salah has won the 2018 African Player of the Year prize beating  Arsenal rival, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Liverpool team-mate, Sadio Mane in a ceremony held today in Dakar.

This is Salah’s second African Player of the Year title and he becomes the fourth African after El Hadji Diouf, Samuel Eto’o, Yaya Toure to win the award back to back.

Salah had  a fantastic year having  secured  13 goals in the English Premier League to help the Reds lead the title race. Salah  was also named the Premier League Player of the Year and was third best player at the FIFA Best Awards.

Last season, he finished with 44 goals across all competitions and helped Jurgen Klopp’s men end as runners-up in the Champions League. Despite an injury sustained at the Champions League finals, he was still able to score two goals in two games at the FIFA World Cup held in Russia.
