The Nigerian government has closed down four of its missions abroad over the non-availability of funds.
The country’s outgoing Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama who stated this in Abuja while briefing journalists on his stewardship said the missions affected were those in Czech Republic, Serbia, Sri Lanka and Ukraine.
Onyeama, who is seen as an ardent advocate of ‘smart missions’ as a means of ensuring efficiency in the face of funding challenges claimed the decision was necessary to enable the government save some administrative cost.
