Two of the three African female football teams participating in the ongoing 2019 Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) Women’s World Cup in France have qualified for the Round of 16.
Cameroon and Nigeria’s Super Falcons sneaked into the second round of the competition while Africa’s third representative, the Banyana Banyana of South Africa crashed out in the group stage.
This will be the first time two African teams will make it from the group stage of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Super Falcons who qualified as one of the four best third-placed teams will now play Germany in the Round of 16 on Saturday while the Cameroonians who secured their qualification courtesy of a nail-biting 2-1 victory over New Zealand will slug it out against England on Sunday.
In the other Round of 16 match ups, Norway will battle it out with Australia on Saturday, France will take on Brazil on Sunday while Spain squares up against the United States on Monday.
Also on Monday, Sweden will file out against Canada, Italy will trade tackles with China while the Netherlands face Japan.
