Mrs. Victoria Abosede Okebu was born on the 19th of February, 1961 to the Randle family of Lagos. Her father, Felix Ladipo Randle was the son of the famous Dr John Randle, one of the pioneer physicians in West Africa and a philanthropist medical doctor in Nigeria. Her mother, Christianah Adefunmilayo Oyekan was from the Oyekan Royal Family of Lagos.
Victoria Okebu had her primary and secondary education in Lagos from 1967 to 1978. She obtained her First School Leaving Certificate in 1973 from Lagos City Municipal School, Fadeyi and her West African School Certificate in 1978 from Girls’ Secondary Grammar School, Gbagada – a school founded by the Late Mrs. Eva Adelaja, the wife of the famous Anglican Bishop, Late Reverend Adelaja of C.M.S. Grammar School, Bariga. Victoria was the Senior Prefect of the School in the 1977/78 school year.
Mrs. Victoria Okebu proceeded to the prestigious University of Ife where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Studies in 1982. Victoria Randle (as she then was) was the Vice-President and Acting President of Unife Students’ Union in the 1980/81 session. She served the nation in Niger State in 1983 under the National Youth Service Scheme. In 1988, she obtained a Master of Arts Degree from the University of Lagos. Victoria’s innate quest for education prompted her further to obtain a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1989 and a Post-graduate Diploma in Theology from the Redeemed Christian Bible College in 2001.
She married Barr. Steve Chiedu Okebu, a Deltan in 1983. The union is blessed with three children, two of whom are graduates; one a graduate of Law, the other a graduate of Information and Computer Studies.
Mrs. Okebu joined the Federal Civil Service (Federal Ministry of Education) in 1983 and rose to the Directorate Cadre before she retired voluntarily in 2009 on account of family interest. A good number of Mrs. Okebu’s students are excellent professionals at the top echelon of corporate organizations both in Nigeria and abroad. Some of them are medical doctors, school proprietors, teachers and bank executives, to name but a few. It cannot be over-emphasized that they often remember her with nostalgia and perhaps this led a few of them to recently get together to plan an ‘Appreciation Treat’ for her in Lagos.
In the course of her professional practice, Mrs. Victoria Okebu founded a number of excellent schools both in her individual capacity and as a team player. They include:Federal Staff School, FGGC, Gboko (1986); Shekinah International School, Gboko (1995); Shekinah Creche & Early Learning Centre, Asaba (2001); Redeemer’s International School, Asaba (2001); Redeemer’s Primeseed School, Warri; Shekinah International School, Asaba (2009) and Redeemer’s International High School Asaba (2010).
These schools keep raising young renowned professionals in different fields of life. Today, Mrs. Victoria Okebu is the Educational Administrator of all Redeemed Schools. She is a Pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
It was in recognition of her contribution to national development in the sphere of Education that Mrs. Victoria Abosede Okebu was conferred with the Development in Nigeria Merit Award by PSR Magazine in the year 2011.
