The World Bank has announced that it has approved $3bn in funding to cover vaccination in 32 countries, 15 of which are in Africa.
In a statement made at the G7 Leaders’ Summit in the United Kingdom, the World Bank’s President, David Malpass said the multilateral finance institution is partnering with the African Union to deploy vaccines for 400 million Africans.
“Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the World Bank Group has committed over $125bn to fight the health, economic, and social impacts of the pandemic, the fastest and largest crisis response in our history.
“This financing is helping more than 100 countries strengthen pandemic preparedness, protect the poor and jobs, and jump-start a climate-friendly recovery,” Malpass said.
