Israel launched air strikes on western and central Iran early Monday, with explosions reported in Tehran, Isfahan, Tabriz and Karaj, according to Iranian media reports.
The Israeli military said the attacks targeted military facilities linked to the Iranian regime. The strikes came hours after Iran fired several missile barrages toward northern Israel in response to an Israeli air raid on Beirut’s southern suburbs in Lebanon.
The latest exchange has further weakened a fragile ceasefire that has been in place since April 8 and heightened fears of a return to full-scale conflict.
US President Donald Trump reportedly urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to avoid further retaliation, saying both sides had already exchanged strikes and should pursue de-escalation. British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper also called for restraint and renewed diplomatic efforts.
Iran said its missile attacks were a response to continued Israeli actions in Lebanon and warned against further strikes on Beirut. Meanwhile, the Israeli military said it was also responding to a missile launched from Yemen.
The renewed hostilities have raised concerns about regional stability and complicated ongoing international efforts to secure a permanent ceasefire, while uncertainty over the conflict pushed global oil prices higher.
