In a historic inauguration ceremony held on Monday, Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima were officially sworn in as the President and Vice President of Nigeria, respectively. The Oath of Office was administered by Chief Justice Kayode Ariwoola, marking the beginning of their four-year term.
Tinubu, a former Senator and governor of Lagos State, emerged as the winner of the highly contested February 2023 presidential election, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The candidate of the All Progressives Congress garnered an impressive total of 8,794,726 votes, securing a decisive victory over his closest rival, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, who received 6,984,520 votes. Peter Obi of the Labour Party came in third with 6,101,533 votes, while Rabiu Kwankwaso of the NNPP obtained 1,496,687 votes, securing the fourth position.
With his inauguration, Tinubu joins the league of Nigeria’s esteemed leaders as the fifth democratically elected President in the fourth Republic. His predecessors include Muhammadu Buhari (2015-2023), Goodluck Jonathan (2010-2015), Umaru Musa Yar’Adua (2007-2010), and Olusegun Obasanjo (1999-2007).
As Nigeria ushers in a new era under the leadership of President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima, the nation stands at a crucial juncture, with high expectations for the new administration’s policies and plans to address pressing challenges and drive progress across various sectors.
