A wing of Nigeria’s Supreme Court complex in the capital city Abuja was hit by fire early Monday morning, causing panic but no casualties.
The blaze started around 7am within the administrative section, engulfing at least three offices – including that of Justice Mohammed Saulawa – before being extinguished.
While the full extent of damages remains unclear, staff members had to hastily evacuate as smoke and flames erupted. The likely cause was electrical malfunction according to sources familiar with the facility.
As of now, court authorities have not issued any formal statement on the incident. It is unknown whether legal documents or case files were affected by the fire before it was put out.
The Supreme Court sits at the Three-Arm Zone in Abuja alongside the executive and legislative branches of government.
