The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday confirmed three additional ministerial nominees, bringing the total approved so far to 48 out of President Bola Tinubu’s ministerial appointees.

Lawmakers approved Kwara’s Jamila Ibrahim, Kaduna’s Balarabe Lawal, and Ondo’s Ayodele Olawande via voice vote, a day after Tinubu submitted their names for confirmation.

In dramatic fashion, Lawal collapsed after introducing himself, causing a commotion as aides rushed to assist him. Despite missing the questioning, Lawal’s nomination was also confirmed once he regained consciousness.

The new confirmations bolster Tinubu’s cabinet alongside the 45 ministers approved by the Senate back in August. The process has moved in fits and starts amid negotiations over apportioning ministerial slots to each state.

The Senate confirmation hearings aim to vet each nominee’s qualifications and integrity to serve in the federal executive branch.
