Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has discharged Bello Bodejo, the leader of Miyetti Allah Kautal Kore, from terrorism charges filed against him by the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF).
The discharge came after Aderonke Imana, counsel for the AGF, moved an oral application to withdraw the three-count charge during the resumed hearing on Wednesday. Imana cited Section 108 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015, and Section 174 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) as the legal basis for the withdrawal.
“The Attorney-General of the Federation instructed me to withdraw the charge against the defendant in the interest of justice,” Imana told the court.
Counsel for Bodejo did not oppose the application and thanked the AGF for the decision. Bodejo’s lead counsel, Ahmed Raji, subsequently urged the court to discharge his client by the cited legal provisions.
Justice Ekwo, in his ruling, accepted the prosecution’s application and formally discharged Bodejo of all charges.
