The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the commencement of the 2025 nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in preparation for the forthcoming general elections.
In a statement released via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, the Commission disclosed that online pre-registration will begin on Monday, August 18, 2025, through its designated portal: cvr.inecnigeria.org.
According to the Commission, in-person registration will commence a week later, on Monday, August 25, 2025, at all INEC Local Government Area offices and specially designated registration centres across the country.
The exercise will hold weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., excluding public holidays.
INEC called on all eligible Nigerians—particularly those who have recently attained voting age or were unable to register during previous exercises—to take advantage of the new window.
“This exercise is for Nigerians who have attained voting age or those who were unable to register in previous exercises,” the statement read. “We encourage all eligible citizens to either begin the process online or visit our offices and designated centres once the physical registration begins.”
The electoral body further clarified that the CVR is not limited to new registrants. It also caters to requests for transfer of registration, replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and corrections of personal information, including names and dates of birth.
Reaffirming its commitment to a transparent and credible electoral process, INEC stated, “Our goal is to ensure every eligible Nigerian has the opportunity to exercise their civic right. We are working to make the voter registration process accessible, transparent, and inclusive.”
