Dr. Muhammad Sirajo Aliyu, is a distinguished academic, computer expert and a highly resourceful digital technologist. As an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the Federal University Dutse, Jigawa State and the 15th President of the Nigeria Computer Society, Dr. Aliyu has become a central figure in the advancement of Information and Communication Technology, computer science education and  digital innovation in Nigeria.

A Fellow of the Nigeria Computer Society (FNCS) and a Chartered Information Technology Professional (CITP), Aliyu is widely recognized for his contributions to building ICT infrastructure, setting professional standards, and promoting inclusive digital transformation. He currently serves as the Director of Information and Communication Technology at FUD, where he has also held several key positions, including Head of Cybersecurity Department, Postgraduate Programme Coordinator, and Faculty of Computing Postgraduate Coordinator.

His academic journey reflects a relentless pursuit of excellence. He earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Computer Science from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto; a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the University of Calabar; a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Computer Science from Bayero University, Kano; and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computer Science from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

Dr. Aliyu’s professional trajectory began as a Lecturer at the College of Agriculture, Lafia, Nasarawa State, where he established and headed the Information Technology Unit—laying the groundwork for his lifelong mission to expand ICT capacity across institutions. He later joined Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, where he rose through multiple roles, including Acting Head of Computer Department, Examination Officer, Café Manager, ICT Manager and Coordinator. His leadership helped strengthen the instiyution,s  IT systems and digital literacy programs.

Within the Nigeria Computer Society, he served as Katsina Chapter Chairman, North West Zone Coordinator, North West Zone Representative to Computer Professional Registration Council of Nigeria, and Deputy President for two terms. As NCS President, Dr. Aliyu has championed key reforms and projects, including activating new state chapters, coordinating national IT competitions, and overseeing the construction of the NCS National Secretariat. His presidency also emphasizes research collaboration, youth empowerment through digital skills, and advancing Nigeria’s participation in global technology ecosystems.

Beyond academia and professional service, Dr. Aliyu serves on several national policy bodies, including the Board of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the National Council for Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship, where he contributes to shaping Nigeria’s ICT policy direction.

His membership of professional associations extend globally. He is affiliated with IEEE, the IEEE Computer Society, the Global Internet Society, the Nigerian Internet Society, and the Society of Digital Information and Wireless Communication. He also serves as an external examiner, journal reviewer for IEEE and Elsevier, and facilitator at local and international conferences and workshops.

Dr. Aliyu’s contributions to technology, education, and leadership have not only elevated the standards of computer science and digital innovation in Nigeria but also inspired the next generation of ICT professionals. His humility, scholarship, and commitment to excellence define his enduring legacy as a mentor and nation builder.

It was in recognition of his Sterling Contribution to Nation Building in the Sphere of Development and Promotion of Information Technology  that Dr. Muhammad Sirajo Aliyu was deemed worthy to be conferred with the Nigerian Achievement Award.
