Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom says his government remains resolute in its implementation and enforcement of the Anti-Open Grazing Law despite the killings being carried out on the state’s indigenes by Fulani herdsmen.

Speaking on Thursday at the requiem held for the victims of the New Year attack by the herdsmen, Governor Ortom described the heinous acts as heartless and called on the Federal Government to immediately arrest the factional leader of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore.

His words: “If the herdsmen think that the killing of our people will make us to stop the enforcement of the law, they have failed. We will not be deterred because I am ready to pay the supreme price for the implementation of the anti-open grazing law.

“I will continue to insist on the arrest of the factional leader of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore,” he added.

While rejecting the idea of creating a cattle colony or grazing routes for herdsmen, the Governor stressed that such suggestions were unacceptable to the Benue people as according to him, farmers in the state lacked adequate land for their activities, not to talk of creating space for cattle grazing.
