Following President Muhammadu Buhari’s declaration of his intention to seek re-election, the Accord Party (AP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have told the president and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to prepare for defeat in 2019.
The two opposition parties said Buhari’s announcement of his plan to run for a second term has brightened the chances of both parties in emerging victorious in the 2019 general elections.
Mr. Wasiu Emiola, the Secretary of the PDP in Oyo State said President Buhari’s declaration had further made it easier for the party to defeat the APC as according to him, the APC-led Federal Government had lost its credibility and acceptability due to its dismal performance in the last three years.
Emiola claimed that the Buhari administration was characterized by nepotism, stressing that the anti-corruption crusade of the current government falls way below the expectations of millions of Nigerians.
The Oyo State Secretary of the Accord Party, Mr. John Igbinsola described President Buhari’s declaration as a joke, saying that some cabals in the presidency were pushing the him to re-contest because of their selfish interests.
“President Buhari is acting the scripts of certain politicians to further enslave the masses through anti-people policies. But Accord Party will present a credible candidate that will wrest power from the APC government,” Igbinsola said.
