The keenly-contested rerun election of Imo North Senatorial District has been won and lost. Ben Uwajumogu of the All Progressives Congress, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission, defeated Athan Achonu of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The results declared by INEC yesterday indicated that the APC candidate polled 56,076 votes while Achonu of PDP scored 43,815. In the election of July 23 which has declared inconclusive, Uwajumogu had 48,921 votes while Achonu polled 40,142 votes. The results were however declared inconclusive since the margin of victory was smaller than the total number of voided or cancelled votes.

INEC’s Returning Officer for Imo North Senatorial District, Prof. Arinze Agboju said the results announced this morning were a summation of the returns from the polls of July 23 and those of yesterday.

Two state constituency results which were also declared inconclusive by INEC after the July 23 elections were also released today. The constituencies namely Oru East and Isiala Mbano were also won by the APC. Oru East was won by Mr Nkenna Nzeruo while Isiala Mbano went to Mr Collins Chiji.
