The Federal High Court sitting in Uyo has nullified the election of Bassey Albert of the PDP as Senator representing Uyo Senatorial District and asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue a certificate of return to Hon. Bassey Etim of the same party.
The judge equally directed Senator Albert to immediately vacate his seat and ordered the National Assembly to swear in Hon. Etim from Uruan Local Government Area, as the Senator representing the senatorial district.
In its ruling, the court faulted the primary election that produced Albert as the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party and the subsequent election that made him senator.
Albert was also directed by the court to refund all salaries and entitlements he has so far collected as a senator.
