The Cameroonian government says it will not dialogue with separatist elements in the Anglophone region of the country in order to ensure the continued unity of the country.

The Cameroonian Interior Minister, Atanga Nji stated this over the weekend while speaking on state-owned Cameroon Radio Television, reiterating that Yaounde will deal with persons trying to undermine the country’s unity.

He revealed that President Paul Biya had made the security and unity of the country a top priority because according to him, without them the country would not be an ideal investment environment.

He said a thirty day grace period will be opened for all separatist elements to lay down their arms, stressing that the law would take its full course on any of them who fails to do so.

Atanga, one of the two Anglophone Cameroonians handed positions following a cabinet reshuffle in early March 2018 has been on a national tour since his swearing-in, calling on people to support the government’s peace efforts.

Secessionists under the platform of the Ambazonia Republic have continued to push for a breakaway from the Central African country, a move the government has flatly rejected. Consequent crackdowns on protesters have resulted in several deaths and influx of fleeing separatists into neighbouring Nigeria.
