As the Super Eagles of Nigeria step up preparations for today’s crunch encounter with Iceland, a call for China-based Odion Ighalo to be dropped for Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho has been made.
Former England international, John Fashanu is of the opinion that Ighalo, who failed to convince in the Eagles’ first game against Croatia, which they lost by unreplied goals, should be dropped from the starting line-up for Friday’s game.
According to the former Wimbledon striker, Iheanacho, who was introduced with 15 minutes to go against Croatia gave the Eagles balance and penetration in attack while Ighalo made little or no impact.
“I think the team showed cohesion upon the introduction of Iheanacho. Ighalo has his limitations particularly as he is not that mobile unlike Iheanacho who thrives on taking positions behind defenders with smart runs at defenders”, Fashanu said.
