Amid a deepening row between the United States and Turkey, several gunshots were on Monday morning reportedly fired from a vehicle at the US embassy in the Turkish capital, Ankara.

Turkish Police authorities say no casualties were however reported after the assailants fired shots during a drive-by shooting, hitting the window of a security cabin located inside the embassy.

The shooting, which occurred at around 5 am coincided with a deepening row between Ankara and Washington over the trial of an American pastor in Turkey.

The embassy was set to be closed this week for a public holiday to mark the Eid al-Adha festival.

According to  CNN Turk, a private news channel in Turkey, Police teams were searching for the assailants who fled in a white car after firing five shots at the cabin, leaving behind empty cartridges at the scene.

Ties between Ankara and Washington have been strained over the case of an imprisoned US pastor, Andrew Brunson, whose trial led the US to impose sanctions and increase tariffs which sent the Turkish Lira tumbling last week.

The US embassy in Ankara and the consulate in Istanbul have been the targets of recent attacks and have faced numerous security threats in the past.
