The immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has been remanded in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after the Federal High Court in Lagos refused him bail.

On Monday, the EFCC arraigned Fayose on an 11- count charge bordering on abuse of office and fraud totaling up to ₦30.8 billion. Fayose however pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Subsequently, his counsel, Kanu Agabi filed a bail application on behalf of his client but the presiding judge, Justice Mojisola Olatoregun said the application would be considered later since Fayose was entitled to bail.

She therefore ordered that Fayose, who has been in EFCC’s custody since Tuesday last week remained in custody of the anti-graft agency until Wednesday when his application would be entertained.

Fayose, who was flown from Abuja to Lagos on Sunday was brought to the court amid heavy security presence.

Many of Fayose’s supporters, including former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode were also at the court to express their solidarity.
