The Lagos State Chapter of the People Democratic Party (PDP) has denied reports that its candidate in the just concluded governorship election in the state, Jimi Agbaje has dumped the party.

According to a statement purportedly made available to newsmen in the state, Agbaje had revealed that it was necessary for him to leave the party following series of unresolved disagreements between him and the leadership of the party in the state.

“I have tried to remain focused and ignored all the distractions coming from the leadership of the party. I am making the decision after due consultation with my supporters and loved ones for the sake of peace,” the statement said..

Recall that the former Chairman of the PDP in Lagos State, Chief Tunji Shelle had accused Agbaje of being responsible for the poor performance of the party in the governorship election in Lagos State.

However on Wednesday morning, the Secretary of the party in the state, Prince Muiz Dosumu issued a terse statement to debunk the trending online reports about Agbaje’s purported defection and resignation from partisan politics.

The statement read: “This is to disclaim the rumour going round that our governorship candidate, Mr. Olujimi Agbaje has left the PDP.

“This is an absolute fallacy and could only have happened in the imagination of the rumour peddler. Our great leader, Chief Olabode George has embarked on serious peace initiative to foster unity in the party.

“We cannot afford to start again as we usually do, battles after every election, till another one. Please help foster unity and peace in the party and not another war.”
