French president, Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday honoured the country’s 2018 World Cup winning heroes with the country’s highest official recognition, the Legion of Honour.

The event was put together as a tribute to last summer’s exploits of the French National football team in Russia and the atmosphere, largely due to Paul Pogba, was jovial and excellent.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Macron explained that the award was due to their ‘not forgetting the Republic’s values’ and the Legion marks the respect for them having showed their respect to the country.

In the speech,  Macron singled out Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann as well as the tournament’s revelation and PSG striker,  Kylian Mbappe while Manchester United’s Paul Pogba was described as the ‘calmest’ member of the squad at the event held at the Elysee Palace in Paris.

Often portrayed as a wild character due to his elaborate hairstyles and dance moves, Pogba was a hero among the French squad after scoring the third goal in their 4-2 win against Croatia in the final match of the Mundial.

Speculations have  surrounded the future of the 26-year-old Pogba since then, with the midfielder consistently linked with plans to move away from the English club side.

Spain’s Real Madrid are rumoured to be keen on sealing a transfer, with France legend and Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane  admitting his admiration for the player.
