President of Zambia, Edgar Lungu has announced that Zambia has written to the United States government to withdraw its ambassador to the country, Daniel Foote.
Daniel Foote had condemned the sentencing of two men to 15 years in prison for being in a homosexual relationship.
President Lungu said his government moved against the ambassador because Zambia does not want people with unchristian values . He said he as well as other Zambians were awaiting a response from Washington.
Homosexual relationships have remained illegal in Zambia since the era of British colonial laws.
