The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday, adjourned the arraignment of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu over alleged N7.1bn fraud.
Council to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,EFCC, Mr Chima Okoronma told the court that there was a preliminary matter that needed to be resolved before the senator could be arraigned.
According to him, since no element on the charge sheet showed any event that took place in Abuja, the prosecution had written a letter to the Chief Judge of the court seeking a transfer of the matter to the Lagos Division of the court.
In view of this, he told the court that the matter be adjourned indefinitely while awaiting response from the Chief Judge.
However, the plea for an indefinite adjournment of the matter was turned down by the trial judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo, who insisted that Council took a specific date to return to court.
Having rejected the application for an indefinite adjournment, he subsequently adjourned the matter to June 7,2021.
