In his first official engagement following his inauguration as the 16th President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu held a significant meeting with the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, and the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mr. Mele Kyari. The meeting took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, marking the President’s initial step in addressing critical issues affecting the nation.

President Tinubu arrived at the forecourt of the State House, Abuja, at approximately 2:30 pm, entering through the quarter guard gate, which serves as his official entrance. He was warmly received by Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, the Permanent Secretary of the State House, Tijjani Umar, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, and the outgoing Director of Protocol.

Accompanied by Governor Emefiele, Mr. Kyari, Speaker Gbajabiamila, Honorable James Faleke of the House of Representatives, and other notable figures, President Tinubu proceeded directly to his office. While the specifics of the meeting’s agenda were not publicly disclosed, it is widely speculated that discussions revolved around the removal of fuel subsidy and the resulting fuel scarcity, among other pressing matters.

It is anticipated that the unification of foreign exchange rates and recent Naira redesign may also feature in the discussions. Notably, during his inaugural address, President Tinubu announced the removal of fuel subsidy, a decision that promptly led to the temporary closure of filling stations.
