President Bola Tinubu has directed security agencies to commence an urgent rescue operation following the abduction of 25 female students from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in the Danko-Wasagu area of Kebbi State.
Armed attackers invaded the school in the early hours of Monday, killing the Vice Principal, Hassan Makuku, and injuring a security guard, Ali Shehu, who sustained gunshot wounds.
The Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, Nafi’u Kotarkoshi, confirmed the incident and said operatives had already launched a manhunt for the kidnappers.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said President Tinubu “strongly condemned” the attack and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the safety of Nigerians, particularly schoolchildren.
According to the minister, the President has issued “clear directives” to security and intelligence agencies to locate and safely rescue the abducted girls and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
He stressed that internal security remains a major priority for the administration, noting that the government continues to strengthen military, policing, and intelligence capabilities.
Idris added that Nigeria is also deepening regional security cooperation with ECOWAS, the African Union, and the Multinational Joint Task Force to enhance border protection and dismantle terrorist and criminal networks.
