Nigerian industrialist Aliko Dangote has visited Ethiopia to advance a major fertilizer investment project in Gode, part of efforts to expand the group’s presence in the country.
The Ethiopian government and Dangote Group had earlier agreed on a $2.5 billion urea plant expected to produce 3 million metric tonnes annually, aimed at boosting local fertilizer supply and regional exports.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed described the partnership as a shared vision focused on food security and industrial growth, calling it a “win-win” arrangement.
Dangote Group later said total investment in Ethiopia has now exceeded $4 billion, driven by an expanded infrastructure plan linked to the project.
The package includes a pipeline, a 120MW power plant, a packaging facility, and a large NPK blending plant. Dangote said Ethiopia is now the group’s second-largest investment destination.
The project is expected to strengthen Ethiopia’s fertilizer output and support wider agricultural and industrial goals.
