Israeli air attacks have killed at least 12 people and injured several others in eastern Lebanon, according to Lebanese state media, amid growing strain on a fragile US-brokered ceasefire.
The strikes hit the village of Mashghara in the Bekaa Valley late on Monday, the Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) reported on Tuesday.
The Israeli military said it targeted more than 100 Hezbollah infrastructure sites and fighters across the Bekaa Valley and southern Lebanon, describing the operations as part of expanded strikes against the armed group.
The escalation follows remarks by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who said he had authorised intensified military action against Hezbollah, increasing pressure on the ceasefire agreement reached last month.
Local reports indicated multiple strikes within a short period in Mashghara, with residential areas affected and rescue teams still searching for survivors amid collapsed buildings.
Elsewhere in southern Lebanon, NNA reported heavy artillery shelling on several towns including Arnoun, Yohmor al-Shaqif, Zawtar al-Sharqiyah, and Mayfadoun, while other areas such as Tyre district also came under bombardment.
The Israeli military also issued evacuation warnings for residents of the southern city of Nabatieh, urging civilians to move north of the Zahrani River and avoid areas linked to Hezbollah activity.
Lebanon’s health authorities say the wider conflict has killed more than 3,100 people and wounded over 9,600 since the escalation began, with around one million people displaced.
The latest violence underscores rising fears that the ceasefire may be collapsing as hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah intensify.
