The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested the former governor of Benue State, Mr. Gabriel Suswam over allegations of being connected with the killings in the state.
Suswam was invited by the agency on Tuesday following a petition filed by a high- ranking politician alleging that the governor was habouring a wanted terrorist, Mr. Terwase Akwaza aka ‘Ghana’.
The Police had declared Akwaza wanted over his alleged involvement in the killing of about 17 people in Zaki Biam, Benue State, in March last year. He was alleged to be part of those behind the incessant killings in many villages in the state.
Investigating the petition by the politician, the DSS which had earlier arrested Suswam, placed him on close watch until he was invited on Tuesday and subsequently detained for further questioning.
When Suswan was arrested in February last year, the DSS said arms and ammunition and other incriminating items were recovered in some exotic cars in a complex located at 44 Aguiyi Ironsi Way, Maitama, Abuja which it claimed belonged to the former governor.
Following last year’s arrest, Suswam was held in DSS custody for over two months and had to sue the organization before he was granted an administrative bail.
It was further gathered that upon getting wind of the development, Suswam’s lawyer, Joseph Daudu (SAN on Tuesday visited the DSS office to see him but was denied access.
