The Secretary to the Osun State Government, Mr. Moshood Adeoti over the weekend resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) having claimed that Saturday’s governorship primary of the party was rigged to favour the eventual winner, Gboyega Oyetola.
“I hereby wish to notify you of my decision to resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress.
“I wish to reiterate my commitment to the progress of the state in whatsoever capacity I find myself in the future,” Adeoti said in the letter to the APC chairman in his Ward 12 of Iwo Local Government Area.
Adeoti had on July 20 accused the party of manipulating its primary to elect a candidate for the September governorship election in the state, describing the exercise as a mere endorsement of Oyetola.
“The primaries were arranged, skewed and designed to favour Alhaji Isiaka Gboyega Otedola, the cousin of the National Leader of our party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the statement added.
Adeoti said there was no credible register of members with which a free, fair and transparent direct primaries could have been conducted. He criticized the party after its chairman, Adams Oshiomhole announced the use of direct primaries to pick the candidate.
The direct primary system, which enables all card-carrying members of the APC in the state to vote also received heavy criticisms from twelve out of the 17 governorship aspirants who alleged that there was no comprehensive register of all APC members across Osun State.
Oyetola was elected as the gubernatorial candidate of the party despite protests and would now face other gladiators, including Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the polls slated for September 22.
