The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday regained its majority in the Nigerian Senate following the defection of fifteen senators from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the opposition party.
The letter of the defection of the senators which was read during plenary by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki sees the PDP regain the majority it lost to the APC in 2015 with 64 senators as against APC’s 44 while the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has one.
The APC senators who decamped to the PDP include Senators Dino Melaye (Kogi West), Barnabas Gemade (Benue North), Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano Central), Rafiu Ibrahim (Kwara South), Sha’aba Lafiaji (Kwara North), Abdul Aziz Nyarko (Adamawa Central), Olanrewaju Tejuoso (Ogun Central), Isa Misau (Bauchi Central) and Mohammed Ubali Shittu (Jigagwa North East).
Others are Senators Monsurat Sunmonu (Oyo Central), Abdullahi Danbaba Ibrahim (Sokoto South), Bayero Usman Nafada (Gombe North), Nazif Suleiman (Bauchi North), Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi (Oyo South) and Suleiman Hunkuyi (Kaduna North).
The Senate has this Tuesday adjourned plenary to September 25, 2018.
