Another Senator elected under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has lost his bid to return to the Upper Chamber.

David Umaru, the senator representing Niger East Senatorial District on Thursday lost the APC ticket to Mr Sani Musa.

At the primary election which was held in Minna, the state capital, Umaru’s 5,870 votes were not enough to ensure his return to the Senate as Sani Musa secured 39,192 votes to clinch the party’s senatorial ticket for the zone.

According to Saidu Akawu, the Chairman of the electoral committee, four other aspirants – Shuaibu Gwada, Umar Faruk, Usman Danjijo and Afiniki Dauda scored 2,653, 1,750, 206 and 146 votes respectively.

Akawu commended the party members for demonstrating “political maturity” in their conduct during the direct primary election, and also praised the aspirants for their patience.

Recall that Umar Kurfi, the senator representing Katsina Central Senatorial District had earlier lost his re-election ticket at the APC senatorial primary in the state.
